Janet is former Deputy Chief Dental Officer and Chair of Local Dental Network for NHS West Midlands at NHS England, now chair of the CDS CIC.

Janet works in partnership with clinical leaders in regional and local area teams to improve outcomes for patients, and support the role of dentists and dentistry across the health system.

Leah sits on the GDPC Executive at the BDA, and is the secretary of Northants LDC.

She is the GDPC rep for the county and an associate at a NHS practice in Northampton.  Leah has experience in setting up local mentoring schemes.

Practical sessions demonstrating real applications of mentoring

Three parallel 45 minute sessions – repeated in the afternoon

  1. Mental Health First Aid - Essential information for mentors with Jess Shields. An experienced Coach, Mentor and Facilitator, Jess is a qualified first aid at work trainer in Mental Health.
  2. The Value of Values with Dr. Karen Sutton. Karen is a Principal Dental Surgeon at her practice in Malvern, with a background in preparing students for the ‘real world’ of dentistry. Karen’s speciality is the treatment of anxious dental patients and she loves putting people at their ease.
  3. Mentoring with Outreach Students - a personal journey, with Dr. Stephen Denny. Stephen is a Partner/Principle in a busy dental practice. He teaches and lectures to dental students at Southend Outreach.

  1. Dr. Rebecca Viney - Coaching for Mid-Career Crisis
    Rebecca has been a GP in London for 25 years and is a UK pioneer in Health Coaching who will introduce the concept of Health Coaching. With her proven expertise and practical examples to activate your own journey into a richer and more fruitful relationship with your patients and their family and carers. A journey that promises to bring benefits to you as well as your patients.
  2. Bob Hughes PCC – Peer Supervision Group
    Discuss successes and challenges in coaching and mentoring that attenders bring along. Together, we will explore relevant skills and techniques, and any ethical issues that may arise. Bob will be facilitating, coaching and mentoring the group through the discussions. The co-creator of the Leadership Coaching Model, Bob has trained coaches and mentors globally since 2002. Bob Hughes is a coach, coach mentor and an accredited trainer of coaches and mentors, as well as a leadership consultant.
  3. Helen Caton Hughes – Tips and Tools for Coaching/Mentoring Presence
    Presence is the bedrock of any great conversation. Helen is an accredited assessor for the Chartered Management Institute and International Coach Federation, coach trainer for over 15 years and practitioner of mindfulness and meditation for over 40! Practical and interactive ways to prepare for your coaching/mentoring sessions and improve your presence using guided facilitation, relaxation and mindfulness techniques.

Lunchtime Mentoring Sessions

A team of qualified mentors will be on hand to offer an understanding ear.  If there's an issue you'd like to talk through, book* one of the 15-minute lunchtime slots when you register.

New Format - Presentations

This year we've invited presentations from professionals, academics and practitioners working in the field of mentoring.  These will highlight the main points or components of practical applications of mentoring/coaching in a way that conference attendees can easily learn about the topic.
